NURSE-ON-CALL Celebrates 4th Birthday with Launch of Add-on Health Coaching Service

McKesson Asia-Pacific was pleased to celebrate the 4th Birthday of the NURSE-ON-CALL service today with a morning tea attended by the Minister for Health, Hon Daniel Andrews, MP and Professor Richard Osborne, School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University.

Since its inception in June 2006, NURSE-ON-CALL has played a significant role in the healthcare landscape of Victoria. In the last 12 months during the heatwave, the tragic bushfires and H1N1 influenza pandemic, NURSE-ON-CALL was instrumental in not only supporting health services but also giving Victorians the right advice and recommending the best level of care.

Co-President of McKesson, Dr Andrew Wilson said NURSE-ON-CALL is a key part of the Victorian healthcare system and expanding the service to include the NURSE-ON-CALL Health Coaching Service was a natural progression.

“The NURSE-ON-CALL Health Coaching Service involves Registered Nurses making a series of outbound targeted coaching calls which will assist Victorians manage their chronic disease and thereby improve their health,” said Dr Wilson.

The Minister for Health joined a team of NURSE-ON-CALL nurses to celebrate the launch of the Health Coaching Service and commended McKesson and the dedicated nurses who provide the existing NURSE-ON-CALL service.“We are very pleased to begin the trial of the NURSE-ON-CALL Health Coaching service.

Evidence confirms that Victorians continue to value highly the NURSE-ON-CALL service as it provides easy access to high quality, reliable and immediate professional advice and we will expand on this to provide a proactive telephone-based chronic disease self-management service,” said the Minister.

“The overall goal of the service is to assist enrolled clients to gain confidence in self managing their chronic condition/s by learning to identify, respond and monitor clinical indicators.”
